Hey Seniors! Here’s some exciting news from La Vie, Penn State’s student yearbook organization:
Grad Finale 2010 will be taking place February 8th and 9th at the HUB student bookstore from 11:00am-4:00pm! Just to remind you all…that’s this coming Monday and Tuesday!! La Vie will have a table set up at the bookstore where seniors can get all the goodies and supplies needed for graduation…(only about 3 months away now! Ahhh!) La Vie will have caps and gowns available, as well as class rings, graduation announcments, and yearbooks! Even if you are on the fence about getting some of these supplies, it’s worth it to take a few minutes and stop by their table to see how much everything is. I’m sure the yearbook is going to be amazing, along with everything else. If nothing else, go get yourself a lovely gown because we don’t want you to go gown-less on graduation day! J
Again, here’s the breakdown of details:
What: Grad Finale 2010 presented by La Vie
Where: Penn State HUB Bookstore
When: Mon. & Tues, February 8th & 9th from 11:00am-4:00pm
Why: Because we need to look good and be prepared for our big day!

Tales of the Everyday Penn Stater February 2, 2010

Better weather is just a few weeks away (hopefully).
May is just around the corner (not really but its not a bad thing to think about),
The “g” word is creeping up ever so slightly. Which is why it’s a good idea to go to your advisor for your senior checkout.
Remember that American History class you took sophomore year that counted for a gen ed humanities credit and your international cultures credit? Are you sure that it counted for both?
Well it never hurts to recheck. It won’t hurt you to go to Sparks or Carnegie or Stuckeman or Burrowes or wherever your advisor is just to make sure that your degree audit speaks to all the hard work you’ve put in. Hopefully you won’t be the person who is surprised when their meeting is over.
It’s a very simple process that you can schedule in advance for most colleges or just go to walk-in advising hours. I know I wouldn’t want to have to tell my parents that I had to stay another semester because I didn’t realize my Music Appreciation class didn’t double count when I thought it would.
It takes no time at all. Better to be safe than sorry and early rather than late on this senior task. You’ll be able to sleep easier at night if you know everything is settled. And that’s my tale for this week.

A Senior’s Ultimate Quest: Finding an Underclassman with Meal Points January 28, 2010

For me, it was approximately 6:30 pm on the second Thursday of my sophomore year. I left the White Building (after Butts & Guts, obviously) with three friends and, like clockwork, began to head towards Pollock Dining Commons. We nearly reached the entrance to ‘RigaTony’s’ when it hit us– we didn’t have meal points anymore. Our Thursday night RigaTony’s ritual of buffalo chicken pizza, cesar salad with artichokes, and those cool little pieces of bread with the olive oil, was devastatingly over. I trudged back to my apartment, head drooped to my chest, feeling worse than Charlie Brown, and probably made scrambled eggs for dinner.
The days of Malibu-themed Waring Dining Hall dinners and the potential consequences of eating stir-fry loaded with laxatives are in the distant past for most seniors. My suggestion- head to East Halls and make a friend. Seriously, do you even remember chicken finger wrap day?? Now that is my last semester at Penn State, I am straight up jonesing for a dining commons last hurrah– a “Dining Commons Tour,” if you will. As students, we are about to be as extinct as the Chicken Cosmo (RIP), so do what’s right- find somebody with a loaded ID card.
April 22nd – Save The Date January 27, 2010

This person circled the wrong date, don't be this person.
Ok Seniors, here is what you are going to do. Get out your calendars right now, flip to April and put a big circle around April 22nd. Now I know what you are thinking, “Oh, what is so special about April 22nd? Earth day maybe?” Wrong!
On April 22nd, we the 2010 Senior Class Gift Committee will be holding an event at the Arboretum. Be sure to come on out for free food and entertainment. Most importantly of all come out to check out the coolest new addition to your Penn State campus! The weather will hopefully sunny and nice and the Arboretum will be blooming! This is a great way to kick back and relax on an April afternoon right before you start to funnel into graduation. So be sure to come by and see what all the fuss is about at that intriguing place north of Park Ave. You know, the place with the name you aren’t really sure you are pronouncing right. (That’s är

m in case you are wondering. Or if you are like me and can’t actually read that just try saying “are-bu-ree-tum”) It’s quite a magnificent area, much more than some bland garden as some may assume. So be sure to come out, you won’t be disappointed! And look for more updates about event details as they become known.

Graduating Seniors: The Job Search January 26, 2010

Three of the scariest words any senior in college can hear. Those words are only scary, however, if you are performing them. They become consuming. They become controlling. They become the OMG of senior year.
Penn State can help you while you are here. They have resume workshops and job posting emails. They even have a building that just handles career services. All the tools are there for you if you want them.
But you have to be the one to seek them out. They will help you if you make time for it and trust me, you need as much time as you can get.
Every senior has three types of friends.
1) The person who has locked up a job and are having the time of their life while thinking about their upcoming job at the end of graduation.
2) The person who has done nothing in the way of searching for a job if that is the road they do eventually see themselves going down.
3) The person who is trying desperately to find a job and has become an expert at interviewing but hasn’t stuck anywhere yet.
Congratulations if you are type number 1. Get busy if you are type number 2. Keep trying if you are type number 3. Because if you work hard enough, hopefully numbers 2 and 3 will become a number 1.
